Cruise In France On the Canal du Nivernais in Northern Burgundy Aboard The
First Class Hotel-Barge
RANDLE
BARGE CRUISES: SEVEN DAYS/SIX NIGHTS
The 4-passenger Randle is a beautiful and classically-styled hotel barge
constructed by English craftsmen in 2001 with all the modern conveniences yet
with the varnished wood, leather and polished brass of a more traditional river
boat. The barge offers private charter cruises for couples or families and is
crewed by a professional team composed of the captain/owner, gourmet chef and
tour guide.
There are two cabins, a master cabin 115 sq ft with a fixed queen bed and
ensuite bathroom with a bathtub/shower, and a guest cabin 59 sq ft with an upper
and lower berth and ensuite bathroom with shower. The wheelhouse saloon has
leather seating for six with a dining table and panoramic views of the
countryside as well as drop down sides for cool summer cruising. There is also a
lower level saloon with a leather sofa seating six and an open kitchen for
watching the chef prepare meals.
During your cruise enjoy a balloon ride, cycle along the canal towpath or take a
stroll through picturesque villages; when you charter the Randle the time is
yours. Take a barge trip through the beautiful hills of Burgundy, famous for
wine production for millennia. Your crew will show you the very best the region
has to offer. There are cathedrals, castles, grand chateaux, vineyards, pretty
villages, markets and 28,000 thousand year old cave paintings, all set in the
beautiful landscape that is Burgundy. Families may be interested in the barge's
Activity Itinerary, with zip-lining, rock-climbing, canoeing, horseback riding
and a guided cycling tour.
The Randle cruises primarily on the Canal du Nivernais in Northern Burgundy
following the Yonne valley and intertwined with the Yonne River itself. The
canal is known for its tranquillity, its beautiful hills and valleys, its
picturesque villages and historic towns and famous vineyards. The Randle also
cruises on the rivers Yonne and Seine
cruising to the picturesque village of Moret sur Loing. The Yonne is a
quiet, meandering and picturesque river set within a valley of wooded hillsides,
historic towns, and famous vineyards, where you can travel in the footsteps of
Impressionist artists like Turner and Sisley. Traveling along tree-lined canals
and meandering rivers aboard your own private riverboat is the perfect way to
enjoy rural France. Your crew aims to achieve the perfect balance of a delicious
meal, a glass wine, and an evening sunset enjoyed with friends or family and
conversation.
The Randle offers half board cruises, with breakfast, lunch and one dinner on
board and five dinners at selected restaurants at passenger's expense. Your
cruise also includes private transfers from Paris to the barge and return.
We met the owner, Tim Harrold and chef Gail Robertson in April 2017, had a
wonderful lunch on board and a lovely cruise on the Nivernais canal to Auxerre.
We think the Randle offers a great opportunity for groups of four to charter
their own barge on one of the most beautiful canals in France.
